Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the award-winning Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!) return to Let’s Dance International Frontiers, having made their UK debut at the festival in 2017.

PHILADANCO! is celebrated for its innovation, creativity, and preservation of predominantly African American traditions in dance, led by 2013 National Medal of the Arts recipient Joan Myers Brown. From contemporary ballet to modern genres, PHILADANCO! works in a range of dance techniques that most companies don’t attempt to possess.

The repertoire features When Dawn Comes by choreographer Christopher Huggins, a psychologically driven work masterfully showcasing dancers in a joyous celebration. Tommie-Waheed Evans’ choreography With(in) Verse entwines the ideas of spirituality and sorrow. A feverish whirl of virtuoso lifts and turns sets the tone for Gene Hill Sagan’s La Valse. With Anthony Burrell’s Conglomerate homage to the rich history of Black Dance in Philadelphia that inspired his own journey.
