Against the backdrop of the exhibition Black Men in Dance in The Gallery at De Montfort University, LDIF20 launches with a rare solo performance by Kyle Abraham.
Abraham, Artistic Director of A.I.M, will present his newest solo piece, Cocoon. Cocoon premiered in October 2019 at The Joyce Theater, features costume design by couturier Giles Deacon and musical accompaniment by Nicholas Ryan Gant and his gospel choir, performing arrangements of Björk songs.
A celebrated choreographer, Abraham, has also created work for companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and New York City Ballet. His work mixes hip-hop, street, and modern dance styles and explore themes of identity, history, and community.
Abraham’s performance for LDIF20 marks International Dance Day 2020, as well as launching the tenth edition of Let’s Dance International Frontiers.
Advance booking required.
