An exhibition exploring over a century of Black British history with key images from each decade from 1910s – 2010s. The exhibition will show the changing face of Black British presence and the cultural contribution made to the East Midlands by the African and African Caribbean community. Exploring figures from Larry Gains, a boxer who lived in Leicester during 1930s, to Ella Fitzgerald’s performances at De Montfort Hall in the 1960s and Bob Marley’s performance at Leicester Polytechnic (now DMU) in the 1970s. The exhibition will provide a new perspective on cultural and social history of the East Midlands.
