Archiving the Past, Reflecting the Future

About

Archiving the Past, Reflecting the Future is actively archiving, documenting and preserving the legacy and contribution of the African and African Caribbean diaspora to arts and culture in the East Midlands from the start of the twentieth century.

As a part this initiative, Serendipity is launching an accessible physical and digital archive in addition to films, exhibitions, events, talks and literature to showcase collections and research on Black British history.

Digital Archive

Archiving the Past, Reflecting the Future’s digital archive holds extensive collections relating to significant individuals and events from the African and African Caribbean diaspora that have impacted many different areas of British culture such as art, dance, film, theatre, music and sport. These collections feature original and rare documents and objects, which offer a rich and interesting insight into the past that is often lost in history or held in private collections, alongside oral histories, documentary shorts and interviews.
